Water sports and walking opportunities abound. The landscape is green and fresh, the beaches clean and uncrowded. Auckland offers dolphin encounters, idyllic relaxing beaches, wild surf beaches, golf courses, bird sanctuaries and native forest - all within 30 minutes from downtown. Auckland has an excellent variety of eating places, pubs and nightclubs with live entertainment. The weekend outdoor markets are filled with local arts and crafts.

뉴질랜드 최대의 항구. 뉴질랜드에서 마누카우, 크라이스트처치에 이어 3번째로 큰 도시입니다. 동쪽의 와이터마타 항과 마누카우 항 사이에 있는 노스 섬의 좁은 지협에 있습니다. 1840년 윌리엄 홉슨 총독은 오클랜드를 식민 정부의 수도로 정했고, 영국 초대 해군장관과 후에 인도 총독을 지낸 오클랜드 백작 조지 이든의 이름을 따서 명명했습니다.
오클랜드 하버 다리(1959)는 제1의 주거지역이면서 급속히 성장하고 있는 노스쇼어 교외지역 및 뉴질랜드 해군기지와 해군공창이 있는 데번포트를 연결합니다. 1977년 오클랜드와 마우이의 천연 가스전을 연결하는 가스관이 완공되었습니다.
오클랜드 도심지역에 있는 주요시설로는 전쟁기념박물관, 교통기술박물관, 오클랜드 시립미술관, 공공도서관, 오클랜드대학교(1957 : 1882~1957년 오클랜드 유니버시티 칼리지는 뉴질랜드대학교에 속해 있었음), 시청과 그밖에 3개의 교원대학 등이 있습니다. 주변에는 수영과 서핑을 즐길 수 있는 해변, 원뿔형의 사화산이 몇 개 있고 골프장·운동장·공원·자연보호구역 등이 있습니다. 인구 : 시 148,400(1987), 도심지역 829,200(1987).
